A brief appeal on behalf of Pelotonia
I wanted to write a post to appeal for help with an event and a cause that is important to me. Pelotonia is a bike tour across central Ohio whose proceeds benefit cancer treatment and research at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University. 100% of funds raised by Pelotonia go directly to funding cancer treatment and research at Ohio State. Moreover, due to Pelotonia’s partnership with my employer, any donation to my Pelotonia campaign will be matched by my company, effectively doubling your contribution to cancer research.
I will provide more detail on The James and Pelotonia below, but want to mention early in this post that donating is easy and secure via this link: http://www.mypelotonia.org/riders_profile.jsp?MemberID=55765
The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University is one of the nation’s leading comprehensive cancer centers. It is ranked nationally, and pursues both ground-breaking research and treatment of cancer patients. Funds raised by previous Pelotonia efforts have helped to finance breakthroughs in blood testing for lung cancer, trialing a new reovirus therapy for pancreatic cancer, trialing a new drug for the treatment of leukemia, trialing a tumor-fighting vaccine, identifying and targeting molecules implicated in breast cancer, and many more. I personally know cancer survivors who have been treated at The James. Moreover, I know that research and expertise from The James cascades to improve the outcomes of those treated at other facilities. A pediatric oncologist acquaintance who works at a different area hospital cooperates frequently with doctors at The James. The benefits of research performed at Ohio State even extends to the animal world, as I learned when our boxer received treatment for malignant melanoma this spring at the Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center.
Pelotonia is a bike ride patterned after the Pan-Mass Challenge, which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Pelotonia has grown tremendously since its inaugural year in 2009, raising millions of dollars for cancer research and treatment at Ohio State. From 2009-2011, the Pelotonia route traversed 100+ miles through the hills of south-central Ohio, running from downtown Columbus to Athens (Ohio, not Georgia or Greece), ending at the Ohio University campus. This year, the route has changed and will run from downtown Columbus to Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
I have ridden Pelotonia the previous two years, and thanks to the generosity of my supporters, have raised nearly $6,000 for cancer research. 100% of your donation goes to cancer research, and is of course tax deductible. You may even donate anonymously, if you wish. Please think of your contribution not as being to me, but as a contribution directly to cancer research and treatment. Also, please keep in mind that donating to my Pelotonia campaign makes your dollars work twice as hard as they otherwise would, thanks to the generous match from my company.
Almost everyone has had a friend or family member affected by cancer. Please join me in supporting this excellent cause.

Thank you.
